The New Superfood on the Block
Kale has been the superfood of the moment for quite some time now, but it is time to step aside and let a new veggie back into the limelight. If you haven’t given brussels sprouts a chance, now is the time! With countless health benefits and endless ways to prepare, this cruciferous vegetable is sure to become a new staple in your kitchen.
Brussels sprouts are rich in many nutrients including vitamin K, vitamin B6, and vitamin B1, and they even contain more vitamin C than an orange. They also offer dietary fiber, potassium, omega-3 fatty acids, and plenty of antioxidants, which help prevent cancer and promote healthy skin and eyes. Low in calories and with only trace amounts of fat, this superfood is perfect for dieting and helping your body to burn fat. Still not convinced? Try out the recipe below and see for yourself just how delicious brussels sprouts can be!
Roasted Brussels Sprouts
2 pounds Brussels sprouts, halved
2 cloves garlic, chopped
3 tablespoons olive oil
6 tablespoons melted butter
1/3 cup plain bread crumbs
3.5 tablespoons lemon juice
salt and pepper
Preheat oven to 425° F. Toss the brussels sprouts with garlic and oil. Season with salt and pepper. Place on baking sheet and roast for about 15 minutes or until tender. Mix brussels sprouts with melted butter and bread crumbs. Drizzle with lemon juice. Serve and enjoy!
When August hits, so does last minute college shopping. Is a visit to the dentist on your list? Make sure your college-bound kids see the dentist before they ship off to school. So send your kids off with a bright, healthy smile, and don’t forget to pack a Philip’s Sonicare toothbrush in their suitcases for a healthy mouth year-round.
